Hamburg Cyclassics and Velothon Berlin ready to refuel - star becomes a partner to World’s biggest cycle races

Wild card for Verva Activejet Team around Jonas Koch for the Hamburg Cyclassics

Elmshorn, March 31st 2016 – Petrol station brand star is making entirely new inroads into sponsorship. Since the start of the year star has been supporting the top international cycling team “Verva Activejet Pro Cycling Team” (VAPCT) and at the same time is the new sponsorship partner of World’s biggest cycle races: the Hamburg Cyclassics and Velothon Berlin.
star has moved away from the closely related field of motorsports and has instead decided to focus on sport popular with endurance athletes and families alike – cycling.
star now operates over 550 petrol stations in Germany, offering mobility at fair prices and serving the day-to-day needs of many people with an attractive shop range. Through its partnership with the two biggest World cycle races with both professional and amateur competitions, star is expanding its involvement in cycling: firstly as official main sponsor to the Hamburg races (Cyclassics), and secondly as official co-sponsor for the race through the German capital (Velothon).
The two events will include official rest stops for the amateur cyclists at star petrol stations. Here, fans and spectators are particularly welcome. The focus of the Velothon Berlin and the Hamburg Cyclassics is not only on top-level athletes, but on the whole family. The amateur races across various distances, the supporting programme and the children’s races will offer something for every age and every preference. Performance classes do not play a role here, and nor do participants require a competition bike. This aspect is particularly important to star as a new sponsorship partner.
“In cycling, particularly in Germany, for some time now a new culture of sporting fairness and transparency has been spreading. This is a process we would like to help to shape and further. The involvement with Verva Activejet Pro Cycling Team is merely the beginning. We are now very much looking forward to the next level, on which we will be able to help shape the two biggest cycling events and thus mass sport in Germany as a whole”, explains Michal Brylinski, Managing Director of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH and its petrol station brand star.
Patrick Woydt, Vice President Sales at the events’ organiser Lagardère Unlimited Events, explains: “We are delighted to be able to welcome star petrol stations as a new partner of the Hamburg Cyclassics and the Velothon Berlin. star’s outward image is innovative and modern, making it ideal for our events, particularly in a phase in which we are aiming to align our events more broadly with the amateur field. With its existing commitment in international cycling, star brings its own experience of cycling to the partnership – great prerequisites for successful cooperation, which we’re really looking forward to.”
The contract term for both events will initially be one year. However, both sides are interested in a long-term partnership.
