THW Kiel Starts the 2023/24 Season with the ORLEN star Cup

21-05-2023

Elmshorn, May 21st, 2023 –Though the current season is still in the middle of its final run, THW Kiel fans can already look forward to the next season and, above all, the big black-and-white opening party with the ORLEN star Cup on Sunday, 20 August: In addition to seeing the best handball skills at the Wunderino Arena, there are plenty of other great things relating to the Zebras to experience at the fan festival.

The culmination of Kiel’s season preparation gets an international touch: At the ORLEN star Cup on 20 August at the Wunderino Arena, the record-breaking champion THW Kiel will meet not only its northern German neighbour, Handball Sport Verein Hamburg, but also Poland’s top club ORLEN Wisla Plock. For the first time, Kiel newcomers Vincent Gerard and Elias Ellefsen à Skipagotu will enter their future second living room in their new THW jersey. There is also a quick reunion with director Miha Zarabec, who will continue his career at the King’s Class Club in Plock.

“In sporting terms, the two matches against top opponents this year are immensely important. Because of the 2024 Summer Olympics, our season will start a week earlier than usual,” says THW coach Filip Jicha as he looks forward to the prominently held ORLEN star Cup, with which THW Kiel’s main sponsor is also celebrating its 20th anniversary. The tournament starts at 2 p.m. at Wunderino Arena and is played in round robin mode. The playing time is 2x20 minutes.

Dariusz Pawlik, Chief Operating Officer of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH, is excited about the upcoming tournament: “In the year of our 20th anniversary, the ORLEN star Cup is intended to be a big family celebration for all our employees and to highlight our successful partnership with THW Kiel. In addition, with the participation of ORLEN Wisla Plock, we are bringing together our shared passion for the sport of handball and our parent company.”

The ORLEN star Cup will not only offer top-notch sports, but will also be a big reunion party for the THW family after the summer break: In the morning, in the forecourt of the hall, the big record champion fan festival will kick off with many little and large surprises, both in black-and-white and from partners of THW Kiel. Admission to the fan festival is free like last year, with the pre-sale for the ORLEN star Cup at Wunderino Arena starting on Monday, 3 July at THW-
FANWELT and online at www.thw-tickets.de. Affordable admission prices guarantee handball fun for the whole family.
