Elmshorn,
18th of May 2020 - What should we do with our used bikes? Anyone who doesn’t want
to dispose of their roadworthy two-wheelers can bring them to selected star
petrol stations in and around Hamburg until the end of September. Used bicycles
are being collected at nine locations to be donated. The non-profit organisation
Westwind Hamburg e.V. refurbishes the bikes to make them roadworthy again for
their new owners. With the donation campaign, the star petrol stations want to
help those in need to participate in social life.
The
motto at star is: Take your two-wheelers instead of four-wheelers! This is how
we managed to collect over 220 bicycle donations last year. The next campaign will
now kick off together with Westwind Hamburg e.V. “Even if the majority of
vehicles at star are motorised, we have more than enough room for bicycles too.
The amazing results in the past make it clear how important social involvement
is. We want to contribute to helping as many people as possible become mobile.
This especially affects those who cannot afford a bicycle,” explains Oskar
Skiba, member of the Management of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH, and its petrol
station brand star. “Mobility is a fundamental right, and we want to help ensure
that everyone can exercise this right.” For those in need, this newfound
mobility enables them to partake in the public life a big city has to offer, to
meet friends, or just move around. Mobility promotes the quality of life.
Anyone
donating a bicycle will get a little surprise directly at the collection
points, for example a repair kit, a bell, a lamp, or a reflective band for
their own bikes. star will also add a privat label product to enjoy the way
back home, such as the naturally cloudy star apple spritzer or the double-pack
mini salami. Further information about the campaign can be found at: https://www.star.de/aktionen/fahrraederspenden
The collection points in and around Hamburg:
There
are more than 30 star petrol stations in the region, 9 of which are participating
in this donation campaign during their opening hours: see petrol station finder

The central collection point of Westwind Hamburg e.V. will also be
accepting donated bicycles every Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.: Blue
Westwind container in the parking lot of Rindermarkthalle St. Pauli, Neuer Kamp 31.
Westwind Hamburg e.V. supplies bicycles to
those in need
Since
its foundation 2015 in Hamburg, the non-profit organisation Westwind has played
a key role in the region in helping those in need acquire bicycles. Westwind
has shown that the endeavour to give bicycles to those in need for a small fee
makes an important contribution to integration. Around 30 volunteers from all
over Hamburg assist in making the bikes fit for the road again.
Those
in need can contact Westwind Hamburg directly at warteliste@westwind-hamburg.de and
provide proof of social security or their refugee identity card. Further
