Over the past four years, ORLEN Deutschland and the Westwind Hamburg e.V. have been working together to collect more than 540 bicycles for a good cause – in 2021 there were over 100..
Elmshorn, 08th of November 2021 – While some may consider it a given, it is still a luxury for others: owning your own bike and enjoying the flexibility that comes with it. ORLEN Deutschland sees itself as a mobility partner - for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers. That is why every year since 2018, selected star petrol stations in Hamburg and the surrounding area have become collection points for the successful collection campaign. Here, anybody can do a good deed by donating their bike and the Westwind Hamburg e.V. gives them an overhaul to make them roadworthy for their new owners.
For star, that means: ‘bring your bike along to the petrol station!’ After all, that is how we have managed to collect more than 540 donated bikes over the last four years. ‘It is incredible to see just how many bikes have been donated over the past years. We are pleased to be part of this project that is helping keep the residents of Hamburg mobile and supporting those who cannot afford a bike,’ explains Waldemar Bogusch, CEO of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH and it’s star and ORLEN petrol stations. ‘We are delighted that this project has somewhat improved the quality of life of those in need. The mobility they have gained allows them to participate in public life in a large city, to meet friends or simply to exercise in the fresh air.’
Outside of the collection campaign, you can donate your bicycles directly to Westwind Hamburg e.V. at their address in Kronsaalsweg 45 in 22525 Hamburg between Wednesday and Friday 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Westwind Hamburg e.V.: bicycles for those in need
Founded in 2015, the charity Westwind has been playing a pivotal role in the region when it comes to providing bicycles as a means of transport to those in need. The charity has around 30 volunteers from all over Hamburg who work to ensure the bikes are roadworthy.
