Dakar 2023: ORLEN Deutschland supports Jakub Przygoński in the hunt for a spot on the podium

30-12-2022

The Dakar Rally 2023, probably the most famous and toughest desert rally in the world, is coming up right at the beginning of the year. ORLEN Deutschland will join the 45th edition as a team sponsor of Polish-Spanish driver duo Jakub Przygoński and Armand Monleon. The logo of the Elmshorn-based company adorns Przygoński's X-Raid Mini Buggy for the fourth time on the 8,549 kilometres through the Saudi Arabian desert.

"This year's Dakar will be a very big challenge, not only because the rally is two days longer. Our objectives remain unchanged: We're going to Dakar to fight for a place on the podium," says Jakub Przygoński, for whom it's the 14th start at probably the toughest rally in the world. "We completed more than 1,000 test kilometres in the car, worked a lot on the suspension and all the other parameters. I am excited to be riding with Armand this year."

70 per cent of the route consists of new sections and, according to the organisers, is as intense and challenging as never before. The race will start on 31 December with the ten-kilometre prologue that will take the riders to the beach of the Red Sea. Thereafter, 14 more stages await a total of 820 participants in 365 vehicles. After eight days, it's half-time and a rest day for man and machine, after which the participants will spend four days in the largest sand desert in the world - the Ar-Rab al-Khali.

It is the first joint Dakar Rally for the Przygoński/Monleon combination. Together they competed in this year's Rally du Maroc and finished 6th in the final classification. Przygoński, who has driven with Germany's Timo Gottschalk in recent years, achieved his best Dakar result to date in 2019 with a 4th place finish.

The 2023 Dakar Rally ends on 15 January with the finish in Dammam in eastern Saudi Arabia.
