E-mobility fast charger at star petrol stations

22-07-2019

Elmshorn, 22nd of July 2019 – With its star petrol stations being equipped with their first fast chargers, which are based on an in-house hardware and software offering, ORLEN Deutschland GmbH has begun with its new role as an operator in the e-mobility market. The charging stations with triple chargers are equipped with all of the most common international plug types and, in particular, provide a quick charging option for drivers of e-cars that have CCS plugs. In the first few months, the customers refuel electricity for free at star. Speaking of quick, the following payment solution in the form of an app and QR code will also be both fast and easy for customers to use.

This video shows how easy it is to charge at star filling stations.

Up to now, triple-chargers have mainly been found at motorway petrol stations, but are still somewhat rare in urban areas and so far, only around twelve percent of all e-mobility chargers in Germany are fast chargers. In order to reach the climate goals 2030 in the alternative mobility sector, not only more electronic vehicles are required but also a rapid extension of a fast loading infrastructure is essential. ORLEN Deutschland will play a pioneering role in this regard and will swiftly equip other star petrol stations in urban areas once the first phase has been completed. Waldemar Bogusch, CEO of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH and its petrol station brand star, explains: “We see e-mobility being a major market in the future, which is why we are investing in the expansion of our petrol stations.” Since 2015, ORLEN Deutschland has been cooperating with the US electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors in the field of e-mobility, offering the “Tesla Super Charger” at star petrol stations. “As an operator of fast-charging stations, we want to be even faster and more active in the market with immediate effect. With the expansion of our range of alternative fuels, such as hydrogen, LPG, AdBlue and e-mobility, we have strengthened our ability to react to the changing needs and desires of our customers”, continues Bogusch.

In Berlin ORLEN Deutschland is setting up the first e-mobility fast-charging site of the Polish manufacturer PRE Edward Biel. Within the next weeks further sites will follow near Berlin and Hamburg and in Lubeck.

The fast-charging stations have all three common plug types (triple chargers): each station has 50kW | 100kW CCS (European and American standard for DC fast charging), which can provide batteries with a charge time of 100 kilometres in just ten minutes, 50kW CHAdeMO (Asian standard for DC fast charging) and a 22kW type-2 connector (connection for AC charging).

Exceptional convenience during the recharging process

ORLEN Deutschland is further expanding its e-mobility division and offers the new service to its customers for free in the first few months. The free of charge process can be started simply by pressing a button at the charging point. After the introduction phase ORLEN Deutschland will be providing its customers with a simple payment solution in the form of an app and QR code at its fast-charging stations in partnership with the fast-growing Austrian company has.to.be GmbH. Than customer can use their “beEnergised Community” app to scan one of the QR codes attached to the charging point for the respective plug and start the charging process based on the displayed tariff and pay with the registered credit card or PayPal account. This process provides customers with a clear and transparent pricing structure – with no hidden fees, monthly basic amounts or complicated time-based billing. Due to a calculation based on kWh, only the actual electricity purchase will be invoiced. In order to give the widest possible group of users access to the new offer at star stations, in addition to the abovementioned app, customers of large other charging infrastructure providers will also be able to conveniently load at star and pay via mobile via so-called roaming partnerships. “The expansion of our e-mobility offering is another important step in the roll-out of the future concept of star petrol stations. In addition to expanding the range of alternative fuels, star petrol stations have also created a place with a relaxed feel-good atmosphere for mobile people. While the customer is charging his vehicle, he can recharge his own batteries in the star café. With a variety of seating options and a wide range of culinary offerings for every time of day, the star café invites customers to linger and enjoy the break.”
