Elmshorn, 30th of June 2020
– Real neighbourhood help in difficult times: with extensive renovation work
forcing the closure of Schobüll’s church until the autumn, services are now
being held outdoors in rather unusual locations. On 5th of July, it will not
only be the believers who gather for the first time at the star petrol station
Michaelis in Nordseestraße 23 to hold their service and to provide special dose
of “fresh air for the soul”.
Schobüll is a community where
people stick together and anyone who knows Ove Michaelis, the owner of the star
petrol station, knows only too well that he is not one to hold back for long
when difficulties arise. “If the church cannot be used and meetings in closed
spaces cannot take place because of the coronavirus pandemic, we simply use
other places,” he explains. For him it is just like in the saying “If the
mountain will not come to the prophet, the prophet will come to the mountain”
in reverse. Over the coming weeks, services are set to be held not only at the
filling station, but also in the community centre and at a holiday home for
people with disabilities.
“A church service is a time
to refuel and gather energy for the week ahead. What better place could there
be than a petrol station. We are happy to host the community and we are always open to
something that is new and good for people. After all, this is just what our
brand promises: more than just affordable fuel,” explains Oskar Skiba, Managing
Director of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH and its petrol station brand star.
