ORLEN Deutschland opens state-of-the-art EV charging hub in Elmshorn

02-07-2026

After around nine months of construction, ORLEN Deutschland GmbH has completed and commissioned its first company-owned EV charging hub. The site in Elmshorn near the A23 expands the company’s growing network of high-performance fast-charging infrastructure. In addition, the site offers a modern Smart Shop for convenient shopping during charging time.

The EV charging hub was officially opened in the presence of the Mayor of the City of Elmshorn, Erik Sachse (independent), and the management of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH. It operates under the e-mobility brand ORLEN Charge and is conveniently located in the immediate vicinity of the A23 coastal motorway (Elmshorn exit) and federal road 431. The site has a total of 16 high-power charging points with an output of up to 400 kW. Eight Alpitronic HYC 400 fast-charging stations are used, enabling particularly short charging times (depending on the vehicle). The covered charging bays are complemented by a photovoltaic system that generates renewable electricity and supports the site’s energy supply.

In addition to its high-performance charging infrastructure, ORLEN Deutschland places particular emphasis on comfort and a high-quality customer experience: In a Smart Shop equipped with state-of-the-art technology and offering a total sales area of 18 sqm, customers can shop easily and intuitively while their vehicles are charging. The product range is comparable to that of a traditional petrol station shop: snacks, non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, car accessories and even hot drinks such as coffee are available. Thanks to the so-called “Grab & Go technology”, payment is processed automatically, without the need for staff on site or for customers to scan the goods manually.

“This is a fantastic contribution to e-mobility and, not least, to climate protection. When I took office, I also switched to an electric vehicle myself in order to make my own contribution,” says Elmshorn’s Mayor Erik Sachse, adding: “We are delighted to have such a strong company as ORLEN here in Elmshorn and wish the greatest possible success for this forward-looking project.” The city was involved from the very beginning, and “all the specialist departments involved contributed quickly and solution-oriented to its success,” says Elmshorn’s Economic Development Officer Angelika von Bargen.

“I am pleased that today we are taking another step in the development of ORLEN Deutschland,” says Dariusz Kwieciński, Chief Executive Officer of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH. “With the commissioning of the EV charging hub in Elmshorn, we are consistently implementing not only the e-mobility strategy of our parent company, the multi-energy company ORLEN S.A., but also the Consumer and Products segment in Germany. At the same time, we are creating another important milestone in the expansion of ORLEN Deutschland’s charging infrastructure and strengthening regional supply for electric vehicles.”

“The site combines high-performance technology with a high level of comfort and underlines our ambition to make e-mobility suitable for everyday use and convenient. We are proud to offer our customers additional added value during charging time with modern smart shopping in addition to the fast-charging service,” says Dennis Kulbach, Chief Operating Officer of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH.

The site also features seating with two tables and four benches for a pleasant break during the charging process. In addition, there is an accessible 3x3-metre WC container, vacuum cleaners with convenient payment by QR code, and tyre pressure gauges. A digital price display provides transparency and clarity for users. The EV charging hub is open around the clock and offers its services seven days a week.

ORLEN’s e-mobility offering operates under the ORLEN Charge brand. With the new EV charging hub, the company is making targeted investments in e-mobility as part of its transformation process. The ORLEN Charge charging network currently comprises 238 charging points in Germany. ORLEN Charge is also building and expanding its network of fast-charging hubs in Poland, locating them along the main TEN-T transport corridors – at service areas on expressways and motorways. There are currently more than a dozen such facilities operating in Poland, and the network is being supplemented by standalone fast-charging stations in further towns and cities across the country.

About ORLEN Deutschland GmbH
ORLEN Deutschland GmbH was founded in March 2003. It is a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Polish multi-energy group ORLEN S.A. and part of the international ORLEN Group. The company currently operates over 600 ORLEN and star filling stations on the German market. ORLEN Deutschland GmbH, based in Elmshorn, is one of the ten largest filling station operators in Germany and is involved in a wide range of sports and cultural sponsorship activities (e.g. handball, winter sports, music festivals).

In keeping with the claim “Moving forward together”, ORLEN and st
ar filling stations offer high-quality fuels as well as their own shop products at an attractive price-performance ratio. ORLEN Deutschland is increasingly focussing on the expansion of electromobility offerings, alternative, sustainable fuels and the environmentally friendly use of resources. Customers receive additional services such as car washing, ATM and package services at many stations. Filling stations with 'star café' and 'stop.café’ invite customers to take a break in a feel-good atmosphere and offer coffee specialties throughout the day, a wide selection of food, as well as hot and cold snacks.

ORLEN S.A. further expanded its market position in the DACH region at the beginning of 2024 with the acquisition of Turmöl fuel stations. With over 260 stations, ORLEN has a market share of around 10% in Austria, making it one of the three largest owners of fuel station networks in the country.
