Elmshorn, 18 August 2016: When Europe's largest cycle race begins on 21 August 2016, star petrol stations will be at the head of the pack. As well as taking on the role of the main sponsor for the EuroEyes Cyclassics, star will also be supporting the international professional road-racing team of "Verva Activejet Pro Cycling Team" (VAPCT) which has received a wild card for this sporting event. At the same time, star is funding grass roots sport and also taking an active part with its own strong everyman team.
The petrol station brand is systematically implementing its new concept in sports sponsorship. As a pioneer among oil companies, star has this year replaced its sponsorship of motorsport, which has obvious ties to the industry, with environmentally-friendly cycling. As well as record times and peak performances by the professionals, the primary focus is on the team ethos and activities for the whole family. At the EuroEyes Cyclassics, the everyman races over various distances, the supporting programme and the children's races are suitable for any age and level of ambition.
Above all, the accompanying promotions making up the colourful supporting programme prove that the family-friendly side of cycling is particularly important to star. Activities where people can join in include a photo event which records you on your personal "home straight" and a power measuring station which calculates the power generated by every cyclist while riding. And joining in is worth it: A trek road bike will be raffled among all those taking part at the station.
The company's everyman team will receive powerful support from the VAPCT professionals ahead of the races. On a joint training ride, the 50 amateurs in the star team will be able to benefit from safety tips passed on by experienced sportsmen, besides gaining exciting insights into the world of professional sport. "What counts at star is first and foremost team spirit and the desire to achieve great things together. That's why we attach so much importance to the professionals and our employees training together“, explains Wieslaw Milkiewicz, Managing Director and Press Officer for the petrol station brand star. "Our commitment to the Verva Activejet Pro Cycling Team marks the start of our sponsorship of cycling as an endurance sport. Thanks to the wild card, the EuroEyes Cyclassics are the highlight of the season for the riders. We want our sponsorship to give German cycling some real momentum", he elaborates.
