Third Chopin Festival as a special edition: live streamed concerts and a master class

01-06-2021

ORLEN Deutschland and the Chopin Society present masterful classical music for all.

Elmshorn, 1st of June 2021 — This year, it will once again be possible to present timeless classical music to a wide audience thanks to a collaboration of the Chopin Society of Hamburg and Sachsenwald with ORLEN Deutschland GmbH. The 3rd Chopin Festival (www.chopin-festival.de) will be live streamed for free from 11th to 13th of June 2021.

ORLEN Deutschland, operator of the star petrol stations in Germany and a subsidiary of the Polish multi-utility group PKN ORLEN, is also strongly committed to promoting cultural activities this year, in particular by providing support for young musicians. 'We see classical music as an important part of culture — something we neither can nor should ever be without. It is totally in keeping with our slogan "More than just cheap fuel!" and we consider it our duty not only to sell reasonably priced fuel, but also to promote outstanding musical performances and classical music culture,' says Dariusz Pawlik, COO of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH and its petrol station brand star. 'It is primarily thanks to the format of the live streamed concerts that we are able to also reach out to younger generations. It is important to us to get them excited about Chopin and his music.' Frédéric Chopin, a Polish composer who lived and worked throughout Europe, is seen as a role model in terms of building bridges across borders: the type of conduct that ORLEN Deutschland is also committed to.

The Chopin Festival Hamburg is the only festival in Germany that places its artistic focus on the contrast of the sound worlds created by modern and historical keyboard instruments as a means of enabling extraordinary listening experiences. This year, five pianists and one harpsichordist have accepted the invitation extended to them by festival director Hubert Rutkowski, who is set to open the festival himself with a duo piano recital alongside Severin von Eckardstein. Mari Kodama, Tomasz Ritter, Menno van Delft, and Stepan Simonian will perform during the other three concerts. Concert pianist Dina Yoffe will be running a master class with students of the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre in the Shigeru Lounge of the KAWAI Pianohaus Hamburg. The live concert of the master-class will also be streamed on the Internet.
