star is going mobile with bicycle service stations in Gelsenkirchen

27-09-2020

Elmshorn, 14th of September 2020 — Thanks to new service stations, cyclists are saving themselves the long search for an open bike shop and the cost of a specialist for expensive repairs. star is launching its first customer-friendly offering for cyclists in Germany, expanding transport infrastructure, and showing that two and four-wheelers have their place at the petrol station.

Since the beginning of June, 50 free-to-use bicycle service stations have been set up in and around Gelsenkirchen. Five of these are located at star petrol stations. The firmly anchored, sheet-steel units have a stable bicycle repair stand. Inside are specialised tools to make small repairs easily and safely. A high-quality air pump is also attached. And for a break following repairs, star offers cyclists its culinary service, including coffee in the cosy star café or a natural cloudy apple spritzer for the road.

Cyclists are welcome at these five petrol stations:
• Steeler Straße 90-92, 45884 Gelsenkirchen
• Grothusstraße 42, 45883 Gelsenkirchen
• Bismarckstraße 314, 45889 Gelsenkirchen
• Florastraße 150, 45888 Gelsenkirchen
• Schalker Straße 91, 45881 Gelsenkirchen

‘Nowadays, at all times, people are mobile like never before. Simultaneously, we are aware that they are using different modes of transportation. They can find everything that they need right next door at the petrol station of the future,’ explained Oskar Skiba, Managing Director of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH and its petrol station brand star. ‘At our Hamburg stations, we collect bicycles for people in need and get them going again. With our experience in the repair service industry, we are now deploying in the Ruhr region with its dense transport network as Gelsenkirchen’s mobility partner. As part of urban society, our petrol stations offer ‘more than just affordable refuelling.’
The service stations are an essential part of the ‘Radverkehr 2019/20’ programme, with which the city of Gelsenkirchen wants to permanently promote cycling and make it more attractive. As part of this plan, Gelsenkirchen is investing in bike-friendly infrastructure and supporting special bike tours in and around Gelsenkirchen.
