Elmshorn, May 30, 2022 – Pay-at-pump contactless payment: The tankstar app now makes this possible at the almost 600 star and ORLEN petrol stations throughout Germany. The app, developed by ORLEN Deutschland GmbH itself, allows customers to pay quickly, securely, and conveniently right at the pumps. The tankstar app is available in both iOS and Android versions and can be downloaded free of charge from the app stores.
The tankstar app is ready to use in just a couple of steps: After downloading, you then register once within the app. To do this, you need a connection to an Apple or Google Pay account and an assigned personal PIN. As soon as you have filled up as normal, you scan the QR code at the used petrol pump – and three simple clicks in the tankstar app lets you pay quickly and conveniently. The filling station staff get real-time notification in the cash register system that you have paid for your petrol. The latest receipt is instantly available digitally within the app. All previous petrol receipts are also stored there and can easily be downloaded or sent by mail. “The importance and acceptance of mobile payment continues to grow. With the tankstar app, we’re following this trend and responding to the evolving needs of our customers,” says Piotr Guział, Chief Development Officer of ORLEN Deutschland GmbH.
Search for the nearest station in the petrol station finder
In addition to the digital payment function, the app also provides a petrol station finder. It displays the addresses of and distances to the nearest star and ORLEN petrol stations, plus a variety of other information such as current petrol prices, opening hours and all the services offered at the station (e.g., star café/stop café, car wash or ATM). Navigation can be started directly from the tankstar app via the route planner. You can also save your favourite petrol stations. “Simple, intuitive usability was particularly important to us in designing the tankstar app. We are planning more functions for the app that will offer users extra added value and special offers relating to their own personal visit to one of our star or ORLEN petrol stations,” adds Benedikt Brandi, Project Manager of the tankstar app and Director of New Business & Payment Development at ORLEN Deutschland GmbH.
The tankstar app was designed in-house by ORLEN Deutschland GmbH and extensively tested over several weeks in a ‘friendly user’ phase. The language options are German, English and Polish. The tankstar app can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple App Store (iOS) and for Android smartphones from the Google Play Store. Further information is available at
