Standing together in difficult times: star expands sponsorship with THW Kiel

Elmshorn, 22nd of September 2020 – In addition to the existing main sponsorship, ORLEN Deutschland will start the upcoming 2020/2021 season with an additional sleeve logo on the Champions League jersey. The logo will not only comprise the well-known star, but also the co-branding logo star ORLEN: star stands for the petrol station brand and ORLEN for the corporate brand, the name of the group. ORLEN Deutschland belongs to the Polish parent company PKN ORLEN. The co-branding logo is part of the international brand strategy of Central and Eastern Europe's leading oil and energy group from Poland.

THW Kiel and ORLEN Deutschland have been competing together in the German Handball Bundesliga for nine years – since 2016 ORLEN has even been the main sponsor. Previously only the star logo was featured on the Zebras' chests during matches. Starting this season the star ORLEN double logo will be added to the sleeves of the Champions League jerseys.

The jersey made its first official appearance on 17th of September at the Champions League opening match against HC PPD Zagreb. With a victory of 31:21, the Zebras gratefully acknowledged their new sleeve logo. “THW Kiel has already become German champion with the star logo on their chest. We hope that the new sleeve logo will be just as lucky for THW in the Champions League,” explains Christina Puchert, Marketing Manager at ORLEN Deutschland GmbH and its petrol station brand star. The Champions League jersey with the new star ORLEN double logo will be given an even bigger stage at the finals tournament of the 2019/2020 season on 28th and 29th of December. It has not yet been determined which team THW Kiel will be competing against here at the end of December.
